WHAT IS THE LOCAL CURRENCY AND HOW CAN I EXCHANGE MONEY?
The Thai Baht (THB) is the local currency. Exchanging money in Bangkok is relatively easy and you have a few options:
- Currency Exchange Counters: Airports, hotels and shopping malls often have currency exchange counters. While convenient, keep in mind that rates might not be as favourable as at other locations.
- Banks: Banks in Bangkok provide currency exchange services. You will need to present your passport and rates are usually competitive. Banks are typically open on weekdays during business hours.
- ATMs: Using ATMs is a convenient way to get local currency. Make sure your card is compatible with international ATMs and inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid any issues.
- Currency exchange shops: There are many independent currency exchange shops throughout the city. Rates may vary, so it is a good idea to compare before making a transaction.
- Online money transfer services: Some travelers opt to use online money transfer services or withdraw cash from ATMs upon arrival for a competitive exchange rate.
- Credit cards: Credit cards are widely accepted in urban areas but it is advisable to have some cash for places that may not accept cards. Check with your bank about international transaction fees.
- Hotel: The Royal Orchid Sheraton will be able to assist with currency exchange.
The current exchange rate is approximately THB35 to USD1 – please be sure to check this when planning your trip.
Remember to be cautious about exchanging money on the street as scams can occur.

For men this could include trousers, polo shirts or button-down shirts and closed shoes. Ties are optional. National dress is welcome.
